  1. Organizing higher education in Visual Communication Design with the aim of directing quality professional designer students so that they are able to carry out the VCD designer profession responsibly in order to uphold the value of academic excellence,
  2. Conducting research and development of Visual Communication Design science that has integrity towards the scientific progress of Visual Communication Design in Indonesian society by promoting traditional values,
  3. Carrying out community service by applying research results for the development of design science based on a sense of caring for others in the form of improving the quality of people’s lives.

 

Objectives of the Bachelor Program in Visual Communication Design at Maranatha Christian University

  1. To produce students with the basic competencies of art and design science, which are learned through approaches and introduction to the history of the development of visual communication design art, so that they are ready to become visual communication designers who produce ethical and aesthetic works.
  2. To produce students to be able to solve competitive design problems in the global world armed with the cultural values ​​of the archipelago.
  3. To produce students to be able to master the basics of marketing science related to the science of visual communication design, so that they can become managers of consulting bureaus so that they can become job providers and improve the standard of living in society.
  4. To produce students to have intellectual skills, so they can act professionally in developing designs that are also supported by technological advances.
  5. To produce students to acquire complementary competencies other than the field of visual communication design, so that they can work together flexibly with other design fields.

Concentration and Specialization

The Bachelor Program in Visual Communication Design aims to prepare graduates to become qualified, independent and professional designers as well as scientists, especially in the field of science and the visual communication industry. The field of visual communication design expertise contained in this program emphasizes cross-disciplinary education, education is carried out in the form of verbal and visual theoretical lectures, as well as through studio practical lectures which are carried out through individual assistance processes, so that each student’s development can be more closely monitored and directed. There are four major concentrations that students can choose based on their field of specialization as follows:

  • Graphic Design Concentration

Learn to solve visual communication problems through the synergy of images and letters to convey information, build identity, persuade, and motivate the target audience. Works can be in the form of 2D and 3D-based works (illustrations, packaging, signage, exhibitions, and screen-based works/animated screens) with an emphasis on multimedia, creativity development, and entrepreneurial spirit.

  • Advertising Creative Concentration

Is a synergy of the science of visual communication design in the field of advertising. Students can study and design advertising visual design based on graphic design science and techniques. Students are also equipped with management and psychology knowledge so that they are able to compete in the advertising field, one of which is being an art director and creative director in an advertising company.

  • Fashion Graphic Concentration

This concentration is a synergy between visual communication design and fashion, learning how to express fashion ideas using graphic design techniques that are focused on meeting visual communication needs in the fashion sector. Students will also be provided with a portfolio so that they can have a career in the fashion industry as art director, brand designer, fashion illustrator, fashion stylist.

  • Graphic Game Concentration

This concentration was formed to answer the needs of the creative industry in the game sector. The programs offered to students will prepare them for a career in the gaming industry. Each course in the graphics game concentration will focus on building the character and skills of students as game designers and drafters. Students will have the ability to make game prototypes and compile game design documents which will be their portfolio in entering the game industry.
