The Faculty of Fine Arts and Design (FSRD) of Maranatha Christian University together with Goethe Institut and Institut Français Indonesia held a public lecture with the theme “Developing Great Design by Optimizing Collaboration” on Friday, 26 May 2023 in room H05B02, Grha Widya Maranatha (GWM). The event was attended by 157 attendees consisting of Goethe-Institut representatives, Institut Français Indonesia representatives, and was open to the public and the entire academic community of FSRD UK Maranatha.
Isabella Isthipraya Andreas, S.Ds., M.Ds., Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of FSRD as the Chairperson of the Committee revealed that this public lecture was organized so that students and lecturers could learn from the experiences of outside speakers. The country of origin of the speakers is considered to have superior design development. In addition, he also stated that artists cannot just stand by their own work. Therefore, it is important for artists to have the ability to collaborate with other parties in accordance with the pentahelix concept, namely academics, business, community, government, and media.
“By holding this public lecture, it is hoped that our students’ designs can be further developed by strengthening collaboration across stakeholders in the design world. In addition, this public lecture also provides an opportunity for students to broaden their horizons in the field of design. I hope students’ participation in this public lecture can increase their knowledge, explore the outside world, and establish good cooperation with external parties so that their abilities can also develop well,” said Isabella.
In the material session, Alexandre Peutin, Exhibition Curator and Head of Matériauthèque chez Cité du Design France, presented material on The Unique Creative Hub in France. “This journey through materials, processes, senses and methodologies based on the reality of life invites us to change our view of the world. By doing so, we can build a more sensitive, complementary, and above all, more sustainable consciousness,” she said.
Next, Christine Lüdeke, Professor for Jewelry and Everyday Objects, University of Pforzheim, Germany, explained about the development of jewelry design and the collaboration between knowledge, skill, and ability. Christine revealed that it took her a year of practical experience to learn how to make jewelry designs.
“In the process of making jewelry designs, there are several stages that I follow. First, I learned practical theory. Next, I focus on learning relevant technology in the jewelry industry. After that, I combine the practical theory and technology to create a good design. Throughout the process, I kept learning to produce quality jewelry designs,” said Christine.
In addition to the presentation of material, this public lecture also provided an opportunity for participants to interact directly through a question and answer session with the speakers. The event then ended with the handover of certificates to the speakers and a group photo session.
