RERUM, Interior Design’s student association, invited high school students to commemorate Kartini Day in an unique way. The “Kartini Competition” was not a traditional outfit or poetry competitions for our lady Kartini, but a living room design competition.
As a celebration of Kartini Day, the competition was themed “Women from All of Indonesia’s Cultures”–participants were required to incorporate elements of Indonesian culture into their living room design. Participants submitted two works: a mood board to deliver the concept, and a hand-drawn perspective sketch of a living room. The works were then judged with several criteria: thoughtfulness of values of Kartini Day and Indonesian cultures presented in the work, creativity and originality, and conformity with principles of design such as harmony, balance, and proportion.

The winners were announced on 7 May 2022:
1. Clarissa Anastasia from SMA Kristen Trimulia, with the concept of “A Dot in an Empty Canvas”;
2. Heidy Wibowo from SMA Santo Aloysius Sultan Agung who delivered Kartini’s humility through her design;
3. Christella Audrey Valerie from SMAK 1 Bina Bakti, combining wood and grey tones to convey a sense of sturdiness and neutrality.
Congratulations for the winners! May the spirit of Kartini live in the hearts of Indonesian youths.
